Aareal Award of Excellence in Real Estate Research awarded for the seventh time in succession – international prize-winners honoured for outstanding submissions

The Real Estate Management Institute of the EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht (EBS REMI) and Aareal Bank AG have awarded the 'Aareal Award of Excellence in Real Estate Research' for the seventh time in succession.

Wiesbaden, 28 February 2014 - The Real Estate Management Institute of the EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht (EBS REMI) and Aareal Bank AG have awarded the 'Aareal Award of Excellence in Real Estate Research' for the seventh time in succession. The annual research prize, advertised internationally, honours academic excellence in real estate economics. The prize is worth a total of 12,000 Euros and has three categories: dissertation, research paper and MSc/BSc/diploma thesis. The award took place today at Campus Schloss Reichartshausen in Oestrich-Winkel on the occasion of the 15th EBS Immobilienkongress. 

An independent jury, including especially professors in the international and national academic researcher network of EBS REMI, appraised the submissions on this year's topics: Real Estate Finance, Real Estate Management, Sustainability/Environmental efficiency in the real estate industry. The winners received their prize money and awards from the initiators: Professor Nico B. Rottke, EBS REMI, Dagmar Knopek, Aareal Bank AG, and Christof Hardebusch, Immobilien Manager Verlag.

This year's winners are:

Dr Avis Devine, University of Cincinnati, USA, in the category dissertations for her work “Three Essays in Residential Real Estate Topics: An Examination of Rental Tenure, Green Residential Construction Policy and Green Residential Rental Rates”.

Qing Li, National University of Singapore, in the category Research Paper for her work on the subject: "Property Dispositions and REIT Credit Rankings“.

Rebecca Disbrow, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, in the category MSc-/BSc-/Diploma Thesis for her work on the subject: "When the Market Wants to Build Big: the Economic Feasibility of Micro Units in NYC”.

"Already since 2008, Aareal Bank AG and the EBS REMI have been rewarding superior scientific endeavour in the field of real estate economics. The prize has since developed into an award with excellent international reputation", said Dagmar Knopek, member of the Management Board of Aareal Bank AG. It is Aareal Bank's aim to promote young talent in the real estate sector: "With our commitment, we want to advance research and to network academic study and teaching at an international level. An important key aspect here is the link-up between academic research and business practice. Exchanging knowledge with scientific researchers supports us in seeking the best financing, advisory and service solutions for the commercial property and housing industries."

"The strong international participation on the candidates' side impressively confirms that the Aareal Award has established itself as a regular fixture in the real estate-industry research community.”

The closing date for submissions for the "Aareal Award of Excellence in Real Estate Research 2015" in the categories Real Estate Management, Real Estate Finance and Real Estate Economics is 15 November 2014.
